Optimised Washing (XWASH)
Compressor fouling is inevitable during engine operating. Compressor fouling reduces compressor flow capacity and efficiency. Both these factors reduce the maximum power available and increase heat rate. When engines operate on their limits such as EGT there is a significant impact on revenue due to reduced production if the wash frequency is not optimised.
The Gas Path Analysis compressor wash optimiser will analyse the trends in the fault indices (Note 1) for fouling of the compressor and use the engine model to determine the optimum wash frequency. The wash optimisation system will also optimise the wash when deterioration are present in other engine components.(Note 1: XPGT3 - discussion on engine diagnostics and fault indices)
The figure above shows the output from the GPA wash optimisation package.
The red line shows the lost revenue due to down time for compressor washing.
The green line shows the lost revenue due to fouling. The blue line is the total lost revenue.
The above analysis indicates the minimum lost revenue (per year) is about £280,000 (US$400k) and the corresponding wash frequency is about 650 fired hours. If the wash frequency was say 2000 fired hours then the lost revenue will be about £400,000 (US$570k) per year. Therefore optimised washing will result in a saving in lost revenue of about £120,000 (US$170k) per year.
It must be pointed out that wash optimisation depends on many factors such as ambient conditions, power output, down time costs for washing and costs such as fuel costs and product price.
All these factors are taken into account when the optimised was frequency is computed.
